We’ve covered some of the very best new dad profiles and blogs to follow in part 1. In this section we show you even more!
The single working dad – @dadduty
“Being a dad hasn’t been the easiest, in fact it might even be the most challenging, and doing it alone perhaps the most frightening”
Jay Badenhorst has been through the trials, tribulations, ups and downs of being a single dad. He shares a beautiful and deeply personal account of his journey through DadDuty, and also arranges events for other dads to get together.
Why he started: “DadDuty was born out of the realization, that in my own life I was in a great need of a platform where I could find the advice, support and inspiration I craved being a single working dad. By creating this platform I hope to inspire other men, offering them a little support and insight into what it takes to be a modern, trendy man, and a successful father.”
What is means to be a dad: “Being a dad has not been the easiest endeavor, in fact it might even be the most challenging, and doing it alone perhaps the most frightening. I am lucky perhaps, in that I have had to be a single dad from when my son was very little, and through trail and error we’ve managed to find a rhythm to life that suits us both. I do not have all the answers, and every day comes with its own set of challenges and rewards, but we are doing it together and that is the most important thing of all.”
The videographer dad – @thehomevideodad
“Just appreciate moments, no matter how insignificant, and definitely appreciate the here and now.”
Keith Javier is an accidental smartphone videographer on a mission to curate snippets of his family adventures. A very new profile, but one that celebrates the little and large moments of dadlife in a very special and personal way.
Why he started: “Two years ago I stumbled into making home videos set to music for our own family keepsakes. I started an IG profile to post tiny re-edits, as well as share our own way of capturing our adventures and special memories for others to enjoy.”
What it means to be a dad: “I’ve definitely learned to just appreciate moments, no matter how insignificant, and definitely appreciate the here and now. My kids are young but I’m quickly starting to realize that our present definition of fatherhood is ever-fleeting. It will continue to change as life goes on, so hold onto ‘now’ as tight as you can and enjoy every last drop of it!”
The expectant dad – @Dadultlife
“I’ve always looked forward to fatherhood and knew that, when the time came, I’d be devoted to my child – now that journey has started”
Zen is a journalist and is documenting his journey during his partner’s pregnancy, as well as post birth. From funny memes to personal reflections, Dadultlife will connect with other guys going through the journey of fatherhood.
Why he started: “I’ve always looked forward to fatherhood and knew that, when the time came, I’d be devoted to my child – now that journey has started, I couldn’t be more excited. So as a writer, what could possibly be more exciting than sharing the very experience I’ve always longed for? I’m one of the first of my male friends stepping into parenthood, so I love being able to connect with likeminded people.”
What it means to be a dad: “I was lucky enough to have two solid male role models growing up, my step-dad and my granddad, so carrying the lessons they taught me as I start a family of my very own is an incredible feeling. Outside of that, I can’t wait to get stuck into some soft play sessions and finishing off leftover turkey dinosaur dinners.”
Daily dad time – @daywithdad
“Everyone can tell Farley loves the camera!”
Warren Hoyte captures brilliant shots of his time with his newborn, Farley. It’s an account full of bright positivity and some awesome dad-son moments.
Why he started: “I started the IG feed for us to watch him grow and share our photos with like minded parents. We didn’t expect it to take off as quickly as it did but as everyone can tell Farley loves the camera!”
What is means to be a dad: “Have love be your top priority, family time is everything.”
Family life, in squares – @Carlandboo
“I’m lucky enough to have a flexible working pattern which allows me a day a week with Ruby, hence #daddyandrubytuesdays”
Carl is a Full time Project Manager who makes the most of his flexible working to spend as much time with his daughter as possible. A great profile, full of the sort of moments we as fathers should be striving for more of. With another baby due very soon, his ‘squares’ will soon get that little bit bigger.
Why he started: “I’m a full time Project Manager, lucky enough to have a flexible working pattern which allows me a day a week with Ruby, hence #daddyandrubytuesdays. I’m a dad to Ruby who’s 21 months old and a newborn who’s ETA is next week! My profile is about sharing everyday life, the joys of being a dad/husband/dog owner in a busy household. I love sharing photos of our adventures and use it as a timeline so that I can look back at the memories we’ve made.”
What is means to be a dad: “Since becoming a Dad, time has just flown, so the thing that I’ve learnt is to enjoy the here and now. They grow up so quickly so it’s important to take a step back from everything else and just appreciate them at that moment in time.”
A visual record of his journey – @alexander_j_latimer
“As he gets older, there will be any number of things that will become the center of Alex’s world (school, sports, friends, girlfriends etc); I want this profile to be point of reference for him to show him that he was, and always will be, the center of mine.”
Why he started: “I started the profile to really keep a visual record for both he and I of this incredible journey we’re on together; but from two very different perspectives. If there is one thing I’m certain of is that at some point as he gets older, there will be any number of things that will become the center of Alex’s world (school, sports, friends, girlfriends etc); I want this profile to be point of reference for him to show him that he was, and always will be, the center of mine.”
What is means to be a dad: “The key thing I’ve learned about myself since becoming a dad is how capable of responsibility we dads can be! While I employ a number of people in my business, fatherhood is a whole new level of responsibility that I had never expected to be able to handle. As a dad you’re responsible for the life, education and well-being of another human being; and also for that human being’s personal growth and ultimately the person they become and how they will impact other people’s lives as a result. That’s a scary kind of HUGE! But it’s also exciting and that’s what makes it ok. Helping to shape my son into the future man he will become will be the biggest (and most joyful), challenge I expect to have in this life; and I’m up for it!
