New Dad

Parent is born – a letter to dad

written by DaddiLife 8th March 2018
water wipes, changing table dad,

There is much that changes in life when you become a new dad, things that you learn to put in perspective like never before, and things that you learn to have a whole new appreciation of.

One of those things, in fact possibly the thing that may surprise you the most, is the true value of a great wet wipe!

Whenever that mess, puke, and other unnamable things that come out of your baby, having a great wet wipe on hand may just save you on more than one occasion! But there’s also a concern in those first few months that using too many wet wipes might not be good for their skin, or may produce certain allergic reactions.

So when WaterWipes reached out about their new campaign and wipe which contains 99.9% water and a drop of fruit extract, acting as a gentle skin conditioner, we were really interested to find out more.

In fact, these WaterWipes have been approved by Allergy UK too!

Water Wipes – Perfect parenting isn’t real life

One thing we’ve enjoyed learning from them is their stand against ‘perfect parenting.’ A lot of the messaging you see in mainstream media is around perfect parenting – and here’s a surprise…drum roll…it doesn’t exist! It’s refreshing to hear a brand talking this way, and it’s inspired us to write a piece to all new dads about the real experiences of the first few months. Going through those ups and down is really when a parent is born!

Here’s what to really expect:

  1. You’ll learn about how capable you are on a lack of sleep: Your baby’s sleep patterns will go through ups and downs. You’ll probably hear about certain babies who have given their parents an early Christmas present and are sleeping 7,8,9 hours from very early – but that is rare! It’s a hard adjustment, and there’s moments where you’ll be putting yogurt into your tea because you’re just not 100%, but don’t worry – your body will adjust and you’ll be doing the dad life like an efficient commando soon.
  2. Dad Bod is real: A lack of sleep and a new focus in your life means one area that’s likely to slip a little – your health. The dad bod has become a bit of a funny term to give to dads physique in recent times, but it is important that health doesn’t get forgotten altogether. 40% of children’s obesity is directly attributable to the parents, and having those mini health moments over the first few months of your baby entering the world is important.
  3. Hobbies will change: I still meet a lot of new dads who seem to think that once the baby comes along, there will be a few weeks of transition, and that they’ll still be able to go to the football every week, have the regular time with friends, and going as per before. Unfortunately that won’t be the case, but that doesn’t mean you can’t embrace hobbies in a whole new dad way!

Away from those, there are some moments you’ll probably learn a whole new level of ‘gross’ but will love them all the more for it. One of those is the first moment your baby decides to go to the toilet all over you. You’ll want nothing more in the entire world at that moment than A) a very good wet wipe, and B) a whole new change of shirt! 😉
