A dad who helped his daughter overcome personal tragedy in an amazing way.
For the past 380 days in a row, Luke Pieczynski has been crafting personal sketches of inspiration and love using the humble post-it note.
A father of 3, Luke’s eldest daughter lost not only a close friend but also a creative inspiration when her teacher was tragically killed when she was just 4.
Fearing that she would loose connection with others, Luke, who works as an interactive art director in Virginia, USA, started crafting personal sketches on post its and left them in her school bag.
‘These really have to go online’
Having started sketching 2-3 times a week he was encouraged to put them online and as the feedback from both daughter and community got stronger and stronger he set himself a challenge – to sketch a note, everyday for a year.

His startling array of sketches gave him a chance to teach other kids how to draw at a local school recently, which Luke says ‘ was an incredibly humbling and awesome moment to see others creating sketches and sharing them.’
‘I really like them because you did them’
“My best moment was recently when I asked my daughter about the sketches and she said – I really like them, because you did them.’ What greater feedback in the world is there than that!? Luke’s second daughter is now getting in on the action and Luke has begun crafting personal notes for her too.
With lessons and more how-to videos in the pipeline, Luke now wants to inspire other dads around the world to be part of Lunch Note Sketch and share more special notes with our special ones all around the world. Just tag your notes on social media with #LunchNoteSketch.

His momma
He is true Hero.
Thanks for setting such a great example Momma! Love you back.
This shows such love and commitment to his family! what a wonderful lesson to other busy Dads, devoting a few minutes each day to make your kids feel loved and help build their self worth. If all little kids were lucky enough to be raised by such love- what a beautiful world it could be!
Totally Agree.
Thanks Pam! Some of the sketches I create might take 10 minutes or more to make, but all it takes is a quick note saying “I love you” or “Thanks for being you” to make someone’s day. Imagine opening up your lunch bag tomorrow and finding a note from a parent or spouse stating how much they love you. That would put a smile on your face, wouldn’t it?
I am always proud of Luke and how engaged he is as a father and supportive he is as a husband to my sister.. So glad that he is part of our family. Thanks for sharing his LunchNoteSketches.
Our pleasure. It’s something all dads need to know about.
Thanks Kate! I got some great kids, don’t I? Oh, and let’s not forget I have a great partner to help me through this whole parenting thing. 🙂
