7 incredible science experiments for kids, ready in 10 minutes or less

7 science experiments for the kids

With the summer looming and the kids spending more time at home, we’ve compiled 7 awesome kids science experiments for you to do together that will capture their imagination and maximise the dad fun! Always make sure there’s an adult present for these.

1.The Square Bubble

Should bubbles just be circular? Absolutely not! With Glycerine acting as a secret sauce, this dad-hack is ready in minutes and your kids can have a world of fun making their own bubble shapes.

You will need:

  • Washing up liquid
  • Scissors
  • 12 straws
  • Large bucket of water
  • 6 pipecleaners
  • Glycerine

2.Rainbow in your hands

Can Dad bring the rainbow from the sky? He sure can! This cool experiment with jelly crystals will make for a truly eye catching moment. Note: this requires several days to ‘rest’ before using.

You will need:

  • Granulated sugar
  • Food Colouring for the rainbow colours
  • Water
  • A straw
  • 6 glasses
  • Measuring spoon

3.Home made Lava Lamp

Put that £70 away. You won’t need to buy an expensive gismo when you and your child can make your own!

You will need:

  • Vegetable Oil
  • 1 litre bottle
  • A funnel
  • Food Colouring
  • Alka Seltzer

4.Defy Gravity

Can water defy gravity? Absolutely. Make sure you’ve got a change of clothes ready, just in case this takes a few attempts.

You will need:

  • A glass half filled with water
  • A piece of card
  • A bucket

5.Give your science experiments a static twist

This is an upgrade on an old playground classic, and will keep the kids entertained for hours in this hair raising stunt!

You will need:

  • A comb
  • A balloon
  • Tissue paper

6.Grow your own newspaper tree!

This simple but incredibly cool experiment is ready in minutes and you won’t have to worry about the kids climbing them.

You will need:

  • 8 sheets of newspaper (per tree)
  • Scissors
  • Sellotape

7.Make a salt crystal garden

The longer you leave this one, the more growth you’re going to get, and it just looks so cool!

You will need:

  • A plastic cup
  • Charcoal
  • a mixer
  • a spoon
  • food colouring (optional)
  • soap/laundry detergent
  • amonia
  • salt

Whatever fun you’re having this summer, stay safe, and have a great time Dads.

Share the love.
