Boba 4G Baby Carrier Review

written by George Ricciardella 18th December 2017
Boba 4G Baby Carrier Review

I had a recent opportunity to take the Boba 4G Baby carrier for a cruise around Los Angeles and I’d like to tell you about my thorough experience with it in this review.

Table of Contents
1. First impressions and Carry Positions
2. The First Major Challenge
3. The Major Plus Point - Comfort
4. The Simplicity Of Design
5. Overall Thoughts & Pros/Cons

1. First impressions and Carry Positions

Now, the Boba 4G Carrier has the ability to bounce seamlessly between the classic front and rear carry positions. For a child as large as Charlie, I tend to always opt for the rear carry. It’s just usually much more comfortable for him and me. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that he fit incredibly well in the Boba front carry position.

Despite the instructions indicating that he was over the appropriate amount of weight, he fit in it really well. Off to a great start.

2. The First Major Challenge

George Ricciardella, sahdness.com

The Boba faired a little less well with the "first big test" I was talking about earlier - that being the ease of putting it on.

The thing that first struck me about the carrier was that it was decidedly less than intuitive to put on. I know. It’s sort of like “Okay, here are the back pack like handles. What could go wrong?"

I found myself initially wondering, due mostly to the construction, whether or not the straps were on backwards. However, this was a minor blunder and in no way ruins what is, above all else, an excellent baby carrier.

3. The Major Plus Point - Comfort

Once it was on I was struck by how comfortable and well-made it was. The material is very cushioned, super durable and was never uncomfortable, even under the weight of my 27 pound monster baby. It also comes with an insert that you can snap on - but that is only meant for children 7-15lbs.

4. The Simplicity Of Design

Despite feeling good, and again a minor quibble, I found the overall design of the carrier to be very simple, perhaps even inelegant. This is very unimportant to me, but can see it being a distraction for the more fashion conscious. However if you like design simplicity, this is one thing you'll probably like about the carrier.

All in all though, I was able to go about a full day of parking and even a trip to the zoo with both Charlie and his five year old brother with just the carrier. I left the stroller in the car for the zoo trip and never felt like I was burdened or that Charlie was uncomfortable. So, it seems aside from some initial fumbling, it's quite a good, basic carrier.

5. Overall Thoughts & Pros/Cons

Overall, I’d recommend this carrier to anyone that wants a traditional front and back carrier with a few extra bonus features.

I certainly hope that my experience helps you out when the time comes for needing that new baby carrier. It's a crazy world and our kiddos still need help swatting those imaginary dragons. Thanks for listening. Be well.

PROS

  • check
Extremely durable material-most importantly, my child always seemed safe and secure.
  • check
Very comfortable in both front and carry position for me and Charlie.
  • check
Most importantly, my child always seemed safe and secure.
  • check
    Easy to follow instructions.

CONS

  • check
The stirrups seemed gimmicky. I wasn't sure of their practical value.
  • check
The biggest con is it took 2 people to fully secure baby and adjust the straps at first. But it did get easier with practice and as it has the same fittings as the Beco 8.

More info and options to purchase can be found direct on the Boba Website.
