What makes a great dad gift?

The latest research shows that when it comes to Father’s Day, Birthdays and Christmas, dads' hopes for their gifts have changed in recent years and are a lot higher than a simple pair of socks, mugs or T-shirts. A new watch, power tools, pizza oven, fancy coffee and vinyl records are just some of the items topping dads’ wish lists these days.

In fact, 44% go as far as to tell their children exactly what they want. And although they might be more likely to end up with a supermarket special, nine in 10 say their family puts a lot of effort in.

So what makes a great dad gift?

  •  1: It's personal, and filled with meaning. Dad's might not always say it, but deep down they are looking for a gift beyond a generic “Best Dad Ever” printed onto a mass produced, mass purchased item.
  •  2: It's long-term, and durable. Fewer people are interested in giving cheap gifts for the sake of giving cheap gifts. Dads are favouring long-term gifts. Durable items that can be kept for a long time, creating a strong sentimental value or experiences that will create memories that last a lifetime.
