DaddiLifeForce – Multitasking

written by DaddiLife 2nd March 2017
dad, daddy, things to do with the kids, daddilifeforce, multitasking

Each week DaddiLifeForce brings you special tips, curated from the community, to help you create more quality dad moments. This week, we’re looking at situations where a dad’s multitasking skills are a must.

When dad’s have kids that are close in age, or just need more than two hands at any given time, we need that little bit of dad creativity that can go a long way to helping our day. Over to you dads.

One in the front/one in the back, by Graham Skinner

One on the front and one on the back. @grahamrskinner knows how to rock the #dadlife. #daddilifeoftheday ?

Those spontaneous walks  can be the best, and with some spare time to make the most of, Graham grabbed his two kids, and headed out, in true multi-tasking, hands-free style.

In his own words:

“I was home alone with the boys using up some midweek leave. I had no expectations that I’d manage to get the dogs out for much of a walk at all that day. Sometimes you just get a day that goes well, both kids were great all day and the weather outside was fantastic.”

Price: The pack on the back is by Little Life and is £80 (on sale at the moment) and the front is a basic wrap-around.

Time needed: It will take a few mins to get the kids strapped in front and back ok, but once they’re in – you’re off!

Age Range: New born – 12 months.

Multi-Task Score: A strong 4/5 for originality and the freedom of having your hands back (for that all important selfie).

For those dads with new borns, there’s always a time in those first few months where you’re feeding and need to do something…urgently…

So, with one arm taken to support the head and the other holding the milk, you need to adapt – you need to bring in this Chin Move.

Resting the bottle on your chin gives your hand back to conquer that urgent need before coming back to dad life.

Price: Can you buy chins these days?

Time needed: It will save a lot of time juggling that urgent need post feed.

Age Range: New born – 9 months (after which they should be able to hold their own bottle).

Multi-Task Score: A strong 3.5/5 for saving you in an all important moment.

Two hands make lighter work, by Steve Maston

There’s something super special about doing tasks together. It can make for amazing learning between father and child, as well as time to chat and smile.

With the weather (slowly) getting into Spring, what better way to multi-task on those garden tasks but having someone right there beside you.

Steve Maston’s idea of wrapping up his son in some gear, and buying him a mini-mower to compliment his own ‘dad-mower’ is an inspired move. So much so, it might just make the gardening bareable…?

Price: Little Tikes make some awesome little mowers, and are available for under £25.

Time needed: You’ll need to keep an eye out for the kids, and have them a safe distance away from the mower as it’s in motion. But if you ‘delegate’ a different area of the garden to them you will be fine.

Age Range: From early toddler through to 4 years.

Multi-Task Score: A strong 4.5/5 for helping make the gardening more enjoyable, together.
