Summer activities for ages 1-2 (part 1)

Summer Activities for kids

Did you know there are only around 940 weekends from the time your baby is born until they turn 18 years old? 940 weekends. Think about that? – it really doesn’t seem that many, and before you go all Bear Grylls mode, we’ve compiled a list of different things you can do with your baby, for different age groups.

First up, the 1 – 2 year olds

Whilst you can generally sum up the first year of a kid’s life as ‘Eats, Poos and Sleeps’, the second year is way more fun. Around the twelve month mark they’re up and off, walking and talking and ready to explore the strange delights the world has to offer. It’s a great time to be a dad – so to help you make the most of those 940 weekends, here’s part 1 of our Summer activities for having fun with your one to two year old.

  • A Picnic: Wait for the right day, choose the perfect place and pack their favourite goodies. There’s nothing more pleasurably chilled than lunching on a blanket in the warm sun.
  • Log Climbing: Once a toddler climbs a log, balances from one end to the other and then jumps into your arms at the other end, they’ll be asking to do it all day. You do have to join in!
  • Paddling: Waiting for the cold waves to crash over their feet is absolutely thrilling to kids. It’s a little bit scary but also very exciting. Don’t miss out.
  • Funfair: Every kid should go to the fair. At this age, there are lots of exciting little rides to go on and there’s often room for dad too. Don’t forget to hook a duck and share some candyfloss.
  • Roll down a hill: According to the National Trust, this is one thing every child should do before they are 11 and ¾. Start them off early with a gentle slope and, of course, you’ll have to show them how it’s done.
  • Beach combing: The beach or park are wondrous places for a child, full of strange plants, slimy seaweed, funny shaped pebbles and driftwood. Grab a sand bucket and go hunting for the unusual.
  • Pillion Ride: If you love cycling, invest in a child’s bike seat and take them biking with you. A great way to spend a couple of hours out in the fresh air together!
